The key to my failures have definitely been technology and organized activities that pull the family away from the home and one another. At 13 & 15 I’m sad at what I’ve created. Both of my girls say they want to homeschool but I worry about them recreating what I’ve done. I pray the will see my errors and redeem them.
Never forget that while you may think you've misstepped, there may well be a REASON God directed you as He did. You'll only see it in the rearview mirror of your children's adulthood!
Can you give examples of useful hobbies that you’ve helped your younger kids pursue? (And maybe a link to that electricity kit!)
My kids tend to play together reasonably well when we aren’t schooling, but when the peace-shattering aimless rolling around on the floor kicks in, I don’t always have a better activity to offer that will actually hold their interest for more than 5 minutes.
Thanks so much for this series. I'm still working on defining our family values (and seeking my husband's input). Regarding today's post, School of the Unconformed recently shared pictures from their readers homes that specifically apply to creating a screen free/low-technology atmosphere in the home; the whole post is inspiring and even includes some of the sharers' reasoning behind how they chose to "decorate" their homes. https://open.substack.com/pub/schooloftheunconformed/p/architecture-for-a-free-mind-a-visual?r=1f2c9m&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
My goal for our home atmosphere is to live in a Carl Larsson painting :)
