We KNOW the Good We Ought to Do
MAHA isn't going to make the nation healthier. Moms in their own kitchens are.
When I felt the nudge to write this piece, I had a Jonah moment.
Lord, are you sure? Because so many people are so excited about this!
Lord, are you sure? Because the backlash is going to be brutal.
And still, the Holy Spirit insisted. So here I am, at 5 in the morning, writing this knowing— knowing— that it’s going to ruin my day.
But that’s the crux of the piece, and what I want you to focus on: KNOWING.
Friends, we KNOW.
We KNOW that Fruit Loops are laced with crap. We still give them to our kids.
We KNOW that vaccine manufacturers pushed for the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, specifically shielding themselves from liability for the laundry list of reaction warnings they themselves list on their product inserts. We still give them to our kids.
We KNOW that fluoride in water has been shown to cause as many issues as it prevents. We still give it to our kids.
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.  Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.  So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.  For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.—Romans 7:15-20
We KNOW the good we ought to do, yet we do not.
We are people given towards complaining and waiting for someone else to rescue us from our circumstances. As it turns out, God has a purpose for this trait we all possess— we are not saved by our works, but through faith in Jesus, who died that we might be washed clean of our sins. So… it’s a good thing.
But when it comes to MAHA? Friends, MAHA will not save us. It won’t. It will make things easier for the uninformed. It will limit the amount of damage corporations can do. It will give the average American better choices. (All of this is assuming it gets off the ground.)
But it won’t save our nation. It won’t better our kids’ health. Because we already KNOW. And we already have the weapons at our disposal. Many of us have been fighting this battle long before the catch phrase, long before this most recent election, long before it became trendy. Because we KNOW.
Our kids don’t eat boxed cereal. We have studied herbal medicines, homeopathics, the healing that comes from real food. We have asked hard questions about the cost/benefit of vaccines, even in the face of opposition. We have learned and adapted and fought because friends, we KNOW.
So please, be very careful how much power you ascribe to a movement. Be careful how much hope you place in the works of men. Be careful counting on an outside agency or government or office to do the work you need to be doing in your own home.
Because we KNOW the good we ought to do, and we KNOW who saves. The Lord has given us wisdom (Proverbs 2:6) and strength (Philippians 4:13) to act upon that which pricks our spirit. Act accordingly!
In Christ,
Heather
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!! And I could not agree more! My husband and I were having this exact conversation this weekend. Unless our hearts are transformed and our choices are submitted in obedience to Jesus Christ, our paths will not be changed. Yes, we need to know the data, but knowledge alone and external regulations do not change our hearts, Jesus does! By the power of His Holy Spirirt, we can daily make choices that align with what we know and are good, and no policy, corporate procedure, or even well intentioned suggestion has the power to do that for us. We must honestly look at our own hearts and bring them truthfully to Him who already knows, ask for His help and be intentional to apply the truths we learn (and this is in every area of life, including food choices)! I feel passionately about this, not enough room here to share all, but I am so very grateful for what you posted today. It needs to be said in every corner and on every mountaintop. Apart from Jesus, we are hopeless, but with Him, we can be healthy again…in heart, mind, soul and spirit!
We know who saves (Jesus) and that should be where I put my faith and hope.
