“Can I get your recipe?”
More often than not, I have to say no… not because I don’t want to bless another homemaker, but because I am the worst when it comes to following a recipe. I almost always use them as a starting point and veer sharply the minute I sense an opening for some creativity. Conveying the nuances is almost impossible. So I don’t try.
But there’s one recipe I don’t take liberties with, and I have actually made it, as written, for decades:
This is the most decadent, chocolately cake you’ve ever eaten. Serve it with still-warm chocolate ganache poured on top and I promise you, everyone who takes a bite will ask you “Can I get your recipe?”
And I always share it, because if there’s one thing I love about homemaking, it’s the ability to share what I know with others, as well as learning from those in the trenches with me. That’s why I hate not being able to pass on the recipe for a casserole or a soup that someone wants to recreate on their own— I want to be part of the greater circle of women encouraging one another in their pursuit of making home.
This is precisely what motivated me to contribute to The Ultimate Homemaking Library. I have been blessed to gather a lot of wisdom worth sharing in 28 years of homemaking— but I’m still learning, too! Adding my Blessed Abundance recipes collection and Knitting Patterns for Homemakers ebook to the library was a bit like giving back. All the women who’ve poured into me over the years, sharing tips and tricks? Not everyone has the luxury of in-person Titus 2 women. But The Ultimate Homemaking Library makes that possible! Planners guiding the way, sewing helps, sourdough suggestions, recipes for cleaning products, even advice on how to generate extra income… it’s all in there!
The Ultimate Homemaking Library is available June 1-30, and I hope you’ll check it out. I also hope you’ll try the Black Magic Cake. It’s hands-down the overwhelming birthday cake favorite here. (I just made one to serve this weekend as my family gathered to celebrate three birthdays!) If you give either a go, I’d love to hear your thoughts. After all, homemaking is always better when it’s done in community where we can all learn and grow together!
In Christ,
Heather
