Yesterday, I got a flood of messages celebrating the knowledge gained after spending a month reading the book of James again and again.
I also received quite a few messages lamenting how though they had begun with the best of intentions, several friends had only completed a handful of days in the Word.
Here’s my encouragement to you if you fall in that latter category:
If you read through James once, if you paused and considered your reactions in a moment even one time… you are not the same person you were on January 1 and friends, that was the point.
Often we decide to pick up a challenge, and we forget what God so clearly says in the very book we were studying:
“yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14
We commit to a Bible reading plan, or an intense study, or a memorization challenge, and we intend, of course, to follow through. But we make these choices based on where we are sitting in that moment, forgetting that God may completely upend our apple cart at any given second.
So maybe you started with January in James, and life happened. If you were convicted to start, let me encourage you— keep going. Perhaps your 31 days in the book of James is spread out over two months. Maybe it’s not over until May. Could be that you’re still taking notes in December. That’s not just o.k…. that’s God.
My stories regarding this study are saved in the highlights on my IG page. Pace yourself— or rather, let God pace you. The Word never returns void, my friends. Any time spent studying it bears fruit. I pray that you would feel that as you continue to seek sanctification.
In Christ,
Heather
